A Flexplay DVD is a flexible play DVD similar to a conventional DVD, except that it has a pre-set viewing
window that begins when the disc is removed from its packaging. During this viewing window, the Flexplay DVD
plays like a standard DVD, and offers the same great picture and sound that consumers expect from their DVDs.
After this viewing window the disc will no longer be readable by the DVD player and can then be recycled.
The bonding material used in the manufacturre of Flexplay DVDs creates the red color associated with the product.
Forty-eight hours after the package is opened, a chemical reaction causes the disc to turn black, making it unreadable
by DVD players.
Anything that can go on a conventional DVD can go on a Flexplay DVD. A Flexplay enabled DVD can be used in a variety
of industries and applications including: movies, music, video games, television programming and promotion.
All DVDs are optically read via a laser beam. The laser beam focuses through the surface of the disc onto an information
layer, and is then reflected back to the DVD player's photo detectors. Because DVDs are optically read, the clarity and
transmission of light through the disc's surface are critical to playback performance. Flexplay has developed a proprietary
process that makes a DVD unreadable by the DVD player's laser beam after a pre-determined time period lapses.
A Flexplay DVD is designed to work in all DVD players, DVD drives and gaming systems designed to accept a standard DVD.
Just put it in and press "Play." The quality of the Flexplay DVD is indistinguishable from a standard DVD, offering the
same great sound and picture quality.
Flexplay DVDs are available in both DVD-5 and DVD-9 formats. A Flexplay DVD-5 can hold 4.2GB and a Flexplay DVD-9 can hold
7.95GB.
A Flexplay DVD has been designed to play for a pre-set amount of time, e.g. 48-hours, and will maintain its impeccable
picture and sound integrity during this viewing window. The viewing window begins when the consumer opens the package and
exposes the Flexplay DVD to air. A Flexplay DVD can be watched as many times as a consumer wants during the pre-set viewing
window. Flexplay technology is based on time and has nothing to do with the number of plays.
Flexplay discs are fully recyclable and conform to all applicable EPA environmental standards. Flexplay has partnered with
GreenDisk and local environmental organizations to develop several closed-loop recycling options to test with consumers.
Flexplay packaging is unique in that it uses components that scavenge oxygen from the environment, assuring that the disc
will be perfect when the package is opened, and that it will play for its full 48 hour lifespan. Evatone is one of only two
companies with the equipment needed to package Flexplay discs.
